LPU Students meet Rahul Gandhi

Government for any country is said to be a set up which is of the people, made by the people and for the people. This is the basic agenda on which Indian government and government of many other countries is based. To facilitate the common people in taking decisions with the government and welcoming suggestions from the intellect of the country, Rahul Gandhi, Member of Parliament invited universities from the entire stretch of the country at his residence to pour in their views and ideas. From the Punjab region Lovely Professional University was selected to have a session with the MP. In total 9 students; 7 Management and 2 Engineering; were given an opportunity to be a part of the session along with Mr. Aman Mittal- Deputy Director of Department of International Affairs, Ms. Soosan Chhabra- Deputy Registrar and Mr. Rajiv Sobti- Deputy Dean. The discussion was an initiative of Rahul Gandhi to invite the education providers and intellect of the country in becoming an integral part of the growth policies to be framed for the country. He asked the members to come forward and share the problems/issues/new ideas which will help his government and the opposition to look upon the country with the eyes of a common man. He opined that the blame for ill-health of the country’s economy cannot be given to the politicians or the masses as a whole, rather the onus goes on to the bureaucrats who act as a middleman in all the proceedings and thus delay all the workings planned. He asked the educated people of the country especially the students to come forward and work with the important offices and help in streamlining the projects undertaken for the benefit of the country. He appealed the total elimination of the middlemen and said the power shall be in the hands of the public. He did not urge the students to join politics for that. He was of the view that staying outside the system and still benefitting the society by asking questions, pointing problems and working together to resolve them shall be the main motive of the today’s youth. He displayed strict reservation towards the long processes and cycles that the workings of the government and other big corporations have. As per him these long processes dilute the basic essence with which any project is started and the real benefit of any such project never reaches the masses; rather is distributed among the people who act as middlemen. Showing confidence in the Gen Z he said, “Till today the policies are framed for the country and imposed on the common masses because no one comes forward to frame them, question their relevance and ask about the productivity that any policy will bring. Millions of dollars of policies are framed by people having no ground knowledge and the common man accepts whole heartedly without analysing their consequences. I want people of your intellect and intelligence to become an active part in framing the policies of the country which will change the entire face of the country. Do not take the things as they come your way. Ask the basic questions of why, how, when and where and then accept anything. Become an active citizen of your country and give no right to anyone to dictate your life. Make full use of your education and knowledge and become the changers of the country. My office has people of your age group working with me and now I want more people to pour in their ideas and efforts.”

Lovely Professional University's Twinning programs: Offering diversity in disciplines and learning destinations at minimal expenses

The ongoing economic downturn that struck the world economy last year is proving to be big blow to Indian students’ foreign education dreams. Thousands of students, who were aspiring to go abroad for higher studies, are deferring their plans due to global recession, tapering financial assistance and a bleak job market.
In this background, LPU has come with its series of twinning programs in Engineering, Business Administration and Computer Applications that provide such students to get an international degree at approx. 50% of the conventional cost incurred while studying abroad. With the articulation arrangement between LPU and foreign universities, the former is offering these Twinning programmes. As per the arrangement, students complete a part of a programme at LPU, and rest with the foreign partner university. The final degree is awarded by the foreign university.

As the years of the programme in LPU are based on US pedagogy, thus these programmes provide students with an opportunity to choose their specialization after they join LPU's partner university abroad. LPU has tied up with various world class universities in USA, Canada , UK and Australia; so that the students can choose from the list of the partner universities, on the basis of merit and are not compelled to bind themselves to any particular university or country at the time of admission. Students can make their mind on to the future course of their study, while pursuing the part of the programme at LPU; thereby reaching a more precise decision with regard to the choice of the country and the University.
Giving more details about the features of twinning program, Mr. Ashok Mittal, Chancellor-LPU said, “Basically, the programs are meant to impart the learning as per the global standards, adhered in some of the most developed nations of the world. The part of learning that is completed at LPU acts as a propeller for an assured successful education career abroad in some of the most globally renowned Universities, which have partnered with LPU. With tie ups with more than 20 Universities abroad, we offer a range of options to our students to chart his future course in professional education, at economical expenses.”
LPU is taking admissions in its B Tech (International), BBA (International), B. Sc Hospitality Management and MBA (International) programs, for which the eligibility condition has been fixed at 50% marks in penultimate class.

In AIEEE more than 9 Lakh students appear throughout India and only few selected Institutes are able to participate in this coveted counseling. In Punjab only two institutes, LPU and other being NIT - Jalandhar, have participated in all India level AIEEE counseling. The most important achievement for the state of Punjab is that now students from all across India are coming to Punjab for their higher studies. The 960 students, who have opted for engineering seats, are a part of the LPU’s diverse community from 23 different states including Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat and 10 different countries.

Ashok Mittal, the Chancellor, LPU; says, “I am pleased to welcome the students from different states. Already students from 23 states are pursuing different courses at LPU, but now such a strong addition of students of AP & Kerala are there. I am humbled with this achievement that the University has been able to attract students from South also. And I assure them that they will be provided with the best standards in everything; faculty, infrastructure, hostels and above all a healthy environment. We will take a personal interest to help them accommodate in the campus”. From the observed trend it could be noted that CSE and IT are still the most popular programs among the students followed by Mechanical and Electronics. At the University also the first rank has opted for Computer Science.”
